This smoked trout spread recipe is really easy, delicious, can be made in advance, and works well as a starter and as a brunch item. As a passed hors d'oeuvre served on grilled bread or crostini, this is an elegant starter. As a dip with other appetizers and served with crackers, pita/ bagel chips, or bread it is wonderful. And if you are hosting a brunch which is begging for whitefish salad --a NY Brunch mainstay, this is the go-to substitute (some folks literally can't tell the difference between this and whitefish salad!).
If you are planning to serve this with other appetizers, I'd recommend checking the room-temperature consistency as you may want to add extra sauce to make it more dippable than spreadable. Up to you. (In the picture above, I am serving it with my home-made sourdough crackers -- recipe here.)
So, without further ado, here's the recipe, which I hope you'll try and enjoy as much as we do!
Happy eating!!
