Democracy Is Not Dead!
Voting out fascism (and grift & dysfunction)
Thank you, America, for getting out the vote and proving that there are signs of life in our democracy! Against all odds (and threats and obstacles), the US pulled off a free and fair election with record high turnout in a thorough rebuke of Trump and his MAGA enablers. The diversity of gender, color, age, and ethnicity among those elected yesterday speak to a high level of representation, and for that I am grateful and relieved. Come January, we can imagine a functioning federal government with guardrails and consequences for those who flaunt the rules of the land; which is absolutely something to appreciate and celebrate.
Reviewing election results this morning, I couldn't help but think that finally, after two long years of awfulness under Trump (war, affordability, health care, tariffs, ICE, etc.), Americans have come to realize that issues matter more than party, and that representation is really important, both locally and nationally. Speaking intelligently and thoughtfully about issues and plans based on lived experiences led to amazing gubernatorial wins in Georgia, New Mexico, CA and TX where minority candidates took home the prizes. Nationally, Democrats flipped seats (some of which were deemed unflippable) because they spoke about fighting the grift and dysfunction in Washington while prioritizing the needs of their their constituents -- which clearly resonated.
It's clear to me that many Americans have finally come to understand they have been lied to by Trump and that America is not at all what it used to be (the good old days) or what they thought it would be with Trump in charge. The collective sigh of relief from this realization is palpable.
Today is a day to exhale and celebrate, so let us ignore for the time being any anxiety which may be lurking. After these past two difficult years (there's an understatement!) let's simply be grateful that the majority of Americans seemingly support the tenets of the Constitution and the freedoms and rights it entails.
Signing off with a sincere thank you to all the Americans who performed their civic duty and voted in favor of making American democracy great again. Peace out.

Agreed. Am planning to address that in a forthcoming post. Wanted to keep this one positive and short. Thanks for your comment.
😀 I share your positive thoughts and expectations; however, let us not forget that Trump achieved his success and forged his following from a population that felt ignored by largely Democratic government.
